FISHROOM – Updated 7 November 2010

It is hard to set up a fish room as I started my killifish hobby with one tank and at that time I was still a student living in a small apartment. Tanks were everywhere at that time and sometimes when friends came over they were confused whether I was serving them food or peat. That was the fun years back and when I am thinking about it again, I could laugh to death.

However, the amount of tanks increased in time. With the lack of facilities thru the years and with a tight budget, I am trying to work with the fish “space” slowly, bits and pieces. At last, I managed to set up the fish racks from scratch.

This winter season I decided to renovate my fish room completely and properly and to get the utmost enjoyment from this extraordinary hobby. As for me, it is an amazing hobby that needs a certain level of knowledge and also “skills” to be successful. As a matter of fact there are lots of things that I have learnt and experienced before I start this hobby. Loosing fish are the things I have faced in time. So, when I have to move most of my killifish, I decided to do it slowly and acclimatise them in time. Most of them are juveniles and some are very “delicate” species.

The first phase, I managed to put together the simplest, easiest to keep, most enjoyable to look at. The racks consist of small and medium size of tanks, some plants inside and light. No “spaghetti” tubes with noisy air pumps. I prefer peace and quiet at home. Looking at the killifish swimming around and eating live food is the most joyful and enjoying part of the hobby. No words can describe that.

The first phase consists of 2 units of shelves. This part of the space I keep small 10 litre tanks on the top for breeding and 30 litres tanks where I keep grown up killifish especially Chromaphyosemion.

Photo shows the first phase when I started transferring some tanks and fish into the shelves. Lots of work and technical things to consider also buying the right materials especially when it comes to reducing the annoying light which produce glare. I don’t want this to happen.

  1. Please continue soon! Your pictures are lovely, your fish are stunning (I hope to see some Chromaphyosemion bivittatum eggs soon, I’d love to buy some from you!), and you’re very handsome. I’ll be checking back again soon.
